Hi All For a total change of tact I thought I'd turn my hand back to 28mm. A friend of mine has finally twisted my arm to get into D&D. Well we need a dungeon so I whipped up a Dungeon floor tile mold. Expect to see a few more casts in the future as the whole exercise has been quite a bit of fun Cheers Kim

I have a mold with 9 slightly different tiles at the moment. I will be making another this week with 9 different cracked tiles for variation. Then I'll work on a wall block mold and doors etc.
Cheers

No, I'm making the moulds myself. I finished a stone block mould over the week end so you can expect some pictures of those soon. We also played our first encounter in the Dungeon, it was going well untill we got killed :-) Now the GM has to think up a way of getting us out of the muck.

Looking good Kim!
Regarding gluing down sand I always use a 'slurry' recipe for all my basing. That's sand and model railway ballast mixed with 50/50 water and PVA. Spreads fine with an old brush, cleans up in water...but the diluted PVA shrinks on drying to really stick the sand down.

I do pretty much the same stu, but i often find the mix doesn't get inot the crooks and crannies easily, like it's not wet enough. I've tried adding detergent and various other ingredients. Ever have that problem?
(it also dries rock hard, so a good dodge i use is to create the groundwork in plasticene, then paint with this mix then it sets hard)

I use DAS or Jovi air drying clay to build up the basic ground before applying the slurry. So maybe that solves the problem because I try and cover all the nooks and crannies with that before the gravel goes down?
DAS and Jovi are great too because you can smooth them with a wet brush...thick layers of Jovi can crack on drying though which is sometimes annoying - and sometimes just adds to the effect! Although I do usually leave the initial groundwork to dry overnight before gravelling it.

I've had the same problems with slurry in the past. The other problem is its garenteed to get onto places you dont want it, in my case the tops of the tiles. By sprinkling in the sand dry and blowing it arround it fills all the gaps. The photo doesn't show it too well but there are nice natural windblown piles in the corners (but I ended up covering most with flock, being the natural place for plants to grow and all).
By the way, the india ink and sand mix sets like concrete so you will have no troubles with durability if you give it a go. I wouldn't use it to make huge mounds though, for that I'd use the plasticene too.
Cheers

I just finished the bases for my last two 25pdrs last night; sandbag barricades, earthworks, and about three really obvious grains of gravel permanently pva'ed to the top of the sandbags!
