I really must echo Burbsee's comments this is the first time I have ever completed a terrain project (more than painting some walls or glueing together cardboard buildings). So Im quite delighted! and really it has been heaps of fun! I am actually half way through the next project (a 15mm FoW ruined cottage) and am pretty happy with how that is coming along. I dont know quite whats happened but somewhere along the way I seem to have got a clue, things are finally coming out the way I picture them in my head! Thanks to everyone who has taken part (both with entries and with comments). I think perhaps the competition was a bit long as we had a week in the middle when nothing happened but otherwise great stuff!

These challenges are a great idea. It's really inspirational even seeing four different entries from different modellers!
We should definitely keep the ball rolling once the voting has finished. Good luck picking a topic for the next challenge whoever wins!

Sorry I didnt participate guys... I took the time and built half a dozen big pieces to make a new terrain set, xeno dig site... this turned out to be a couple stepped piramids and a few other bits... all done to work with my jungle terrain... I'l post about it soon...
To be honest I am glad I didnt join in... The quality of the entries is fantastic. its gunna be hard enough to vote let alone compete

Does anyone have any ideas for the next competition? Maybe a squad or vechile?

Im quite tempted by a vehicle. Ive got a couple of 40k Tanks kicking around that are in desperate need of a paint job and one of these little comps would probably get it painted!
The other ideas I have are: a standard bearer monster/daemon/dreadnought/walker type thing 5 man squad/platoon/regiment larger monster/vehicle type thing Large terrain piece 12" of linear terrain/barricade/obstacle/fence etc

I think Phil's just a grumpy old man it happens to the best of us! (oops heh. This is in reference to the question about dissing GW in the voting thread). But seriously I guess we all have a love/hate relationship with GW. They screw with their 40k system so much it frustrates me endlessly and to be honest their idea of game balance is shockingly bad imho. They do have quite nice figures but my goodness the prices are eye watering. Anyhoo...next challenge yeah it's a tricky one eh? I reckon a month to do it is about the right time. I don't think we should 'lock' the theme down to any particular game or system since we're all over the show that way. - Vehicles sounds interesting although the problem there is it can involved a large outlay of cash. Maybe a small vehicle or mount? Like a bike or something? Or just something that fits on a rectangular GW bike/horse base? Putting together and painting a horsie and rider I could do probably in a month! - Squads I couldn't do...not unless they're unpainted and assembling/converting a squad is an option. It takes me about 2 months to paint a 10 figure GW squad of anything! Thoughts I had were: - The 'Rank and File' one that I mentioned before. So create/convert and paint a single Troop figure for your army. Like the 'Take me to Your Leader' one but for troops? That's kinda boring though. - Really scratch building something small. Something that would fit on a standard GW round or square single figure base. Stuff like well, detailed bases...or interesting minor objectives. Or even just game counters of some form. The idea was to get people to sculpt or build something from scratch. That one's probably pretty biased towards terrain though and I reckon we at least alternate between terrain/figures? Some of Aaron's ideas sound pretty good: - I always like making barricades and they're always an exercise in scratch building... - Standard Bearer is a good idea too. Bit of conversion of a single figure and painted too. - A 5 figure retinue I could probably paint in a month too... Hey some pretty good ones there...anybody else have any ideas?

Yes...I've got at least three unfinished vehicles . I would like to finish something to varnishing stage though so vehicles are probably out for me. Hmmm unless it's something small like an Imperial Guard Sentinel...I've got a half primed one of them laying around somewhere... 5 character squad/retinue is growing on me though! That would be an excellent opportunity to assemble and paint some of those Nurgle Chaos Space Marines I've had in the garage for years now...

Yeah,I like the sound of a squad, maybe you could make it a squad of between 5 and 10 models, fully painted to a reasonable standard. Maybe set the limit at 5 and make it they have to be converted in some way? Sort of like rank and file but for a few guys instead of one.

I was thinking about something along the vehicle lines; a comp where you could scratch a vehicle, or if you didn't want to a vehicle per se, you could do something vehicle related, like say a garage, landing bay, or maybe even a crashed speeder terrain piece.

How big a vechile? I do have a unpainted Jetbike but that's it for vechiles.

Seeing as this is a competition thread, this shouldn't be off topic. Is there ever going to be another mid-winter modelling madness type of thing?
