Heh, both Aaron and myself have (mostly) painted Flames of War armies now too . Aaron with a US Rifle Company and myself with a NZ Commonwealth North African Rifle Company. I wouldn't say we're experts (ack! not by a long shot) but collectively we've probably played a double digit number of games. If you're a Games Workshop gamer Flames of War is attractive in a lot of ways: 1) Same I-go, You-go turn system. 2) Same basic turn structure (move, shoot, assault). 3) You can use inches OR cm's in the game. So most GW gamers just go with inches I reckon. 4) The game is roughly the same level of detail rules wise as 40k. In fact FOW is probably a bit more streamlined....hmmm...or perhaps the rules are a bit more sensible! 5) It's actually MUCH better balanced that any of GW's game in my experience. Sure there are some powerful single units (Tiger tank anybody) but there are ways around any opponent - even with a reasonably balanced army list...unlike bloody 40k. So fire away with the questions! What army and force type (Armored, Rifle, Mechanised, Pioneer etc) attracted your eye?

Hi burbsee
FOW is pretty simple really.
1 choose the type of company you want to play. You then need 2 platoons and an HQ to start building a force.
In your case you would need Two halftrack panzergrenidier platoons (4 halftracks with a panzergrenidier platoon HQ and 6 panzergrenidier teams for each platoon) The company HQ would be two HQ stands mounted in a Halftrack. You are then allowed to add two support platoon choices for each platoon that you have. those are things like Tiger sections, panzer platoons, artillery batteries etc.
Trust me with your choice of Panzergrens' you will run out of points before you ever run out of support slots
Cheers

Hi Burbsee
Yep thats one whole platoon. See the little black and white diagram, that shows you how many figures to put on each base. So you see, three men on the Platoon HQ base and five men on each of the MG team bases.

Hi Patches
they are 1/100th scale so they are quite a bit smaller than the 1/72 scale tanks that you can get down at the warehouse or local book store. Very detailed though and best of all made right here in New Zealand.

Yep both are still current but in a month or two BF will put out a new rule book.
NEVER FEAR....... they will give you a nice paperback version of the new rules when you take your old copy to your local supplier. You even get to keep your old one, they will just put a stamp on it to indicate that you have got your new copy.
HOW COOL IS THAT!
(PS you might want to check that you have the current version of Hitlers Fire Brigade. If you don't they have a PDF update on their web site that you can download for free.)
