Started on mine this morning, by which I mean I popped another crater out a mold. Got to start somewhere!

Aye got to start somewhere! I was scrabbling around in my bitz last night and found some funny old Rogue Trader pieces....most of an Imperial Guard Thudd Gun! Ahhh...that takes me back...
My piece is going to see some priming and possibly paint tonight ... if I can just work out a decent paint scheme to acheive the effect I want...

I know exactly how I'm going to do mine, got all the bits and know how it'll be painted and finished. All I don't know is when I'm going to get the chance to do it!

I think I have the latest Codex, but I don't have the Craftworld Eldar one. Is the latest one the one with the warlock looking dude on the front and some jetbikes or something in the background?

Well I made some more progress last night! Thank god. I've finished the spiked wall around the edge of the cd & that was the biggest part of the construction. I was a tad concerned about how strong it would be but it seems that plastic sprue + poly cement + cd = a pretty strong bond which is a relief. The next step is the base but I cant decide if Im just gonna do grass/dirt or if I'll try a flagstone path & unfortunately Im getting a new piece of computer hardware goodness tonight so this might go on the back burner for a few days.

Top stuff Aaron...I have to admit I was worried my DAS wasn't going to stick to a shiny CD...so I attacked it with sandpaper until it was really rough and it seems to have worked cause the ground I made seems to have stayed stuck down. Spikey plastic sprue hedges sound painful! Might have to be careful moving figures around in there . I've primed the plastic bits and applied a base coat of Resene housepaint to my piece last night. Did some experimenting with washes as well and determined the best wash to use is Nugget liquid brown shoe polish combined with a bit of diluted Klear floor wax! That'll get slapped all over the terrain sometime over the weekend. Fingers crossed it'll work ... I might have finished this piece by next week...!

I have; I'm reprising my toxic waste dump I did a few months back that you may remember. It's based on one of my large craters, which is cunningly based on a CD. It's going to be slightly different this time, I'm not bothering with a fence, but am going to have a warning sign on the edge. Here's the constituents; On the left is the crater. I've dremelled out the centre to give it a bit more depth. Next to that, the black thing is going to be the sign post. Not sure what this is, probably some part of a tape player or something. In a moment of inspired and modest brilliance, I decided to include the remains of someone who didn't notice the warning notice, hence the skeleton. I'm planning on having him crawling out, draped over the edge with his legs in the sleck, hence the unusual pose. The other bits are sections of plastic oil drum and some barbed wire. Plan is; Cover the base of the crater in plasticene and embed the barrels. Coat plasticene in pva, when it's tacky dribble superglue over it for a nice bubbly effect. stick the unlucky swimmer on, and the singpost and barbed wire, slap some paint on, the fill the crater up with clear resin. course, things rarely go to plan...

What would be cool is if you had zombie bits for the head and arms... like he didnt get fully submerged and is only mostly disolved

It's now ready for painting. Got the crater filled with plasticene, embedded the barrels, glued the sign and barbed wire in place, and done the pva / superglue on the surfcae of the plasticene. Got it all primed, and the skelly painted. next is paint the earthwork, barrels, sign and wire then the waste. Once that's done, glue the skelly down then a couple of pours of resin and we should be finished. should be ready for resin tommoroow, and all done after that.

Sounds good Phil! I've painted the basic structure on my and technically the ground as well but I'm not entirely happy with the way that has turned out...might need some more shoe polish or an ink wash or something. There's still some work to do on the detail plastic parts but I may have it finished and varnished by tonight. I'm not posting mine first this time though ...somebody else can take the plunge...we've still got tons of time before the deadline haven't we? (back again) actually finished it this afternoon. I gave up on the ground but am happy with how the ruins turned out. Wonder if I can create *another* CD piece before the deadline runs out?
