Heh, well it's your competition . I do feel a bit cheaty though because you get such a nice effect from Hirst Arts blocks 'for free' so to speak (although the exchange rate is dropping again so I'm glad I ordered some new molds earlier this year). But yes...I do have to stick'em together and paint em! Plus all the other abuses I'm going to put them through for this little project. Might be raiding my bitz box too for some suitable skulls and other battlefield rubbish to scatter around in the ruin..

Heh 'sound' being the operative word... Do it man! These little 'competitions' (hmmm maybe 'challenges' is a better name - oh yeah look Aaron already called it that - heh) are really just a way of inspiring us to try new stuff I reckon... I wussed out on the last one, using a figure I'd already painted...but I'm going the whole hog on this one! The CD thing is something I've wanted to try for a while now... plus it's a great chance to experiment with new techniques and if it all goes horribly wrong you will have just wasted one (already dead) CD and maybe a bit of modelling time...which you didn't really waste even if it fails because you learnt certain techniques don't work Plus I hope we'd collectively be able to offer helpful advice on each other's projects.

Obivously its up to you how you approach a new proect but I have to say I've been talking to Stu today about what I've got planned and the talking has really helped me develop my idea.
The fun thing is Im not very confident that I can complete it but Im gonna give it a go! At least having talked it through I've got a better idea how to approach it & if I end up with a piece of rubbish so be it!
I found with the MWMM its the talking that keeps you thinking about it and the thinking about it keeps you motivated.
I'd rather see 5 people come up with piece of table top terrain than 1 person come out with a master work so PLEASE if you've got a bit of time and spare CD give it a go!! if anyone wants to email/PM to talk about shit you are quite welcome to do that too.

The cd bit itself is a good idea I reckon - ideal size for a small useful feature, and now that I think about it i've built quite few pieces on cds in the past.

Well I wasn't really sure about the WIP picture so I've got no objection to people using an existing piece of terrain rather than building one and just skipping the WIP. I just kind of assumed most people wouldn't have done something like this before so would be starting from scrath and that a WIP shot would be fun.

How's your going Aaron?
Finished the basic construction on mine last night. Attacking cast Hirst Arts blocks with a small hammer works really well! Wish I'd done more of it for the Mordheim terrain. I think the rubble will turn out fairly convincing with a good paint job. Something to keep in mind for the Cathedral...
Tonight it's gravelisation on the base and around the rubble and getting the 1mm/3mm drill bits out for bullet holing then it'll be ready for a WIP shot and priming.
For bullet holes I figure I'll concerntrate mostly around the doorway and ruined window...must try not to overdo it though. I found the best way to create bullet holes in ultracal 30 is hand drill a really shallow hole (1-1.5mm deep maybe) and then chip around it with an Xacto blade.
I've also discovered that Kneadit (not Green Stuff, but the DIY repair stuff in a tube you get from h/w stores) is superb for 'glueing' plastic details to plaster pieces - I guess it is a sticky epoxy putty.
I fixed three plastic pieces from my bitz box to the terrain...made a door control and viewing screen for beside the door from Leman Russ tank sprue bits...a paintjob will make them convincing. And found a spare 40k 40gallon drum to use for a bit more terrain to hide behind as well.
Ooooo it's fun! And I've tried three new techniques so far so it's been a useful exercise too!

Whoa jumped on the bandwagon late with this one. I'm going to use a few henge pieces to make some sort of altar/cairn either for the dwarves or more likely chaos.

Does anyone have advice?I've only got some left over eldar gear in my bits box so my range of posibilities would be a bit limited =[

OK I think I'll try some sort of Eldar thing with a group of statues and some rubble and see how it goes.

Slipher, a CD isn't that big (as I've discovered)! So some rubble and statues would cover it nicely. Eldar themed would be good too! Are you hanging out for a new codex btw? I think the rubble and statues theme pretty much applies to most of us . It's just a nice way to add some extra scenery to your table.
