Da Plan I have writen up the army list I am building towards and its pretty big, about 150 models in total and if I get the teeth I have a wish list I would love to make true (About 100 models worth). Basically I like filling up force organisation charts with full strength Units, For my Marines and Tau that was easy. But this is da Orks and its a WARGH! The First months plans are set and I have outlined the other 5 months, though it is subject to minor change. Month 1 This month is a busy one for me, Exams and all, but I got a plan. Opening up the mob I have A factory standard Warboss, Completed, he is my normal boss but I thought I would kick off with something special. Inspired by Grendel And His Amazing Warboss Buzzsaw www.tiberius.wellington.net.nz/. 'Ardtoof is a Warboss in mega armour built from bjorn the fell hand and the old scholl bloodthirster model. Again Alan, Thankyou for sharing your work. I got a unit of Kommandos scratch built and completed, a 5 Nobz retinue thats almost finished as is my Dread. The plan is to finish building my Pain Boss, Scratch up a Mek Boy and 10 Burna Boyz, finish converting 'Ardtoof. Finish Painting the The Dread and Retinue and Paint all the rest. Heres the list. 'Ardtoof - Warboss in Mega Armour Gnash Goodfella- Standard Warboss, Promoted Loyal Nob A few Good Boyz - The Nob Retinue that stood by 'Ardtoof and two attack squigs Bloatgut da Butcher - Painboss Rek'ka da Mek - 10 Burna Boys lead by a Mek Kommanda Shado - 9 Kommandos and Nob Stompy - the Dread 30 Figures 11 Completed 06 Almost finished 13 To convert and paint. 'Ardtoof isnt my usual boss but IF I use him I will use Ghazghkulls Rules which means this is a freebooter army using the Goff theme army list. Each Unit will look a bit Uniform and dressed acording to their troop type. Month 2 Gretchin and Slugga Boyz and Ard Boyz Month 3 Slugga Boyz and Storm Boyz Month 4 Fast Attack Month 5 Heavy Support Month 6 Clean up the last models lying round Maybe another special project and If I feel I got time I will build any terrain I talk about in the fluff I wright. Got the camera to take pics tonight but the batteries were flat so I will get them up tomorrow. Good luck to everyone competing and to you other 40k players feel free to take a dig at the boyz in your fluff. Four Armies, one planet. I wonder whats so special about this place that Dark Eldar, the Blood God and The Inquisition would be drawn here. The storm is comming and the Orks are here for fighting. Dustan

Great fluff!
I know absolutely nothing about 40k Orcs so Im looking forward to finding out!
Good luck with your exams! <sigh> I remember Uni, good war gaming times... except for having no money, and exams and assignments and lectures & tute's & having to catch the stupid train into town every day & the part time job... Yep good times sitting in the park reading white dwarf, writing background for armies & planning campaigns.

'Ere we go! 'Ere we go! 'Ere we go!Pictures for the progress so far, I dont have before pictures of the models before putty work but so far this week I have nearly completed 'Ard Toof and sculpted ove 80% of the changes I need for this month. I have used a few completed models for this round as I have 3 exams, 1 assignments and I have to move flat this month. See the whole Gallery Here album.co.nz/a?819 (34 pics) Mob ShotThese are all the figurews that will be done by the end of the month. Ard 'ToofWrok so far, All the detailing and sculpting was done since the first, the paint job is nearly done (God I need sleep) Before After Gnash GoodfellaCompleted before Contest BloatgutThe body is a hero quest Ogre, Still left to sculpt is the robotic arms for his cybork body. The Good FullazAlmost finish but all the work was done before the contest, still a few hours to go though Kommandos aka. Sneaky GitzWith their hand made tailored ponchos, and clever camo scheme this guys can actually disapear on most grey terrain pieces. These guys were completed 3 or 4 years ago. Burna BoyzConverted Tau flamers to orky burnas, sculpted 4 welding masks onto the boys and tooled up a model to be my Mek, He still needs a canvas cary bag for his tools. StompyNearly painted, couple hours to go, all done before the contest. Size really does matter. Thats it for now, Hope you enjoy what I have been up to.

Yeah I reckon so too. Nice to see a decent sized Ork force as well! They're going to look great as a completely painted army.

Ahhh, the night before my first exam, I thought I would just take a moment to let you all know how I am doing
'Ardtoof - Still sitting in the nearly complete pile, just a lick or two of paint and hes done, I'm not happy about his flesh colour, the richer green colours just dont look hard enough for anything tougher than a nob.
Gnash Goodfella- Finished
A few Good Boyz - The Nob Retinue is still sitting there, thats the problem with putting more levels of shading on your HQ units =\
Bloatgut da Butcher - This guy is my personal favourite for this round, I have finished sculpting and started painting, its amazing how convincing a length of tooth pick and piece of coated paper clip thats had 75% of the coating removed can look so much like hydraulics and a steel rod... hes taken more time in mental planning and working up the nerve to mix the putty then it took to make 'Ardtoof
Burna boyz - The Mek is completed (I might have to add some race team logos to him, the 10 burna boyz are about an hour from completion, I need to find some little canisters for the fuel ammo, the plan has been to find something that can be added after painting, I wanted to avoid the cliche of gluing a barrel to their backs, I want a sleek looking unit, trying to capture the pit crew Mekanic look.
Kommandos and Nob - Completed
Stompy - Hasnt seen much action but hes almost done.
So that it.
Across the board I am almost in the clear for this month, 12 complete 20 ALMOST done.
I forgot to count the squigs in my first post thats why the number of figures went up.
I was going through my boxes of figure and found an old 2nd edition ork in an apron, I dont have any pics of him (he was completely untouched by paint) but I was a little bored of working on the same models and couldn't resist. the retinue and warboss currently comes to 8 models the plan was to add a Mek boy with a force field and a mad dok. 10 Models is enough to fit in a trukk. This wee apron clad fellow saves me a world of hurt in sculpting, brings the retinue to almost full strength and gave me a chance to get the colours for my painboss worked out.
Now for a little about how the army is to be structured sitting around 3000pts means I got two sections Fast and foot
3 Trukks, Warboss + retinue, Painboss + cyborks, Trukk Boyz, Bikes, Wartrakks and a big unit of stormboyz. This lot means 20 ded 'ard killy orks backed up by 10 boyz between 11 and 20 (depends on howmany I convert) storm boyz and 9 - 13 light vehicles. Throw in the infiltrating kommandos and thats a rapid strike task force of 60 bodies and 16 vehicles
The other half of the army is even more daunting then 60 orks who WILL be in combat by turn 2
Slogging across the paddock 60 (120 if I can afford it) Choppa boys (though it might end up 90/30 Choppa/slugga) currently the 60's a good number though. 10 burna boyz, currently 20 grots (I want to go 40 or 60) 1 Dreadnaught, 3 killer Kans 10-20 'ardboyz all backed up by a battery of big gunz. That puts my foot section at 101 bodies 4 dread things with a final projected size of 211 bodies
I am 40 grots and 60 orks away from having all the models I need, so thats $250 I need to find and a bunch of scratch building and converting
Oh Yeah, I am mad, I love 3 things 1. Infantry 2. Full Force organisation charts 3. Full Strength Units.
If I can finish all the boyz I have I am allowed to buy more, this could lead to some intense months of painting (I am thinking of aiming for 40 - 60 models next month) I got most of the next month off Uni and work, god bless holiday pay after that I will be back into study so I need a strong month so I dont end up with semester 2 exams and 60 models.
It feels good to get all that off my chest, now its been said I got less to think about during my exams. hopefully I've done enough yapping to raise a few questions, lure some lurkers into commenting and maybe get a bit of feedback.
Cheers Dustan

Phew, I was still painting the last models as my mate with the camera turned up. We took about 79 pictures and I will photoshop a feew backgrounds and make wallpapers soon. other than that I have to organise and resize them and make some kinda webpage to completely cover them... Ardtoof - Warboss - With the unprecidented slaughter of bjorn fell handed and the old bloodthirster model comes Da Bigest Stompiest Ork about Bloatgut - Painboss - This guys been both my favourite and most challenging part of the month, builf from putty, toothpics, ork bits, a coated paper clip and a hero quest ogre. one of my first attempts at sculpting. Note also he is not WYSIWYG I just wanted to make him look staunch. I have dressed him in light blue scrubs, just like on scrubs, I wanted my Docs to look the part. Dressed in Marlbro Red, the speed freak comes with saftey helmet with flip down welding visor, a Custom Burna and a big leather tool bag. God bless putty Here are the burna carrying boyz with putty made goggles and face masks. dressed in traditional brown workshop clothes. This is most of my standard Warboss and retinue, still to be added is the mad doc (I hoped to have him finished and he is complete but I havent decided on his right arm yet This is the whole force so far 32 figures (2 HQ, 1 Elite, 1Troop, 1 Heavy Support) No grey stuff this post, I need to rest and prepare for the next month.... how I am going to keep off the brushes, I dont know Cheers Dustan

Holy cr4p. You painted that lot in the last photo in a month?! Painting 28mm figures I'd be lucky to get through maybe 8 a month! Nice work!

In fairness and modesty, I already had 11 figures completed and a good start on a further 6, so 15 figures painted from scratch and 3 of them needed extensive putty work... I been collecting so long its impossable for me to not have tuched alot of my figures... My next months lot will include 20 night goblin converted to grots and they are mostly painted (brown robes and skin) but I will change the skin colour, also 24 Slugga boyz of which half are fresh and half have varying degrees of base coat.
Cause some of my models are part painted I feel its only fair that I try and attack a stupidly high number of figures. That and if I can finish what I have I can buy more and I want to buy 60 more orks and 40 more grots...
I like the armies that Horde, Ork skaven and undead, I love battles with mass infantry. as such I have had to paint mountains of infantry (Even my space marines army has about 90 foot troops)
Heres a few comments and tips about attacking that much infantry.
thats about the entirety of my thoughts during a painting session. hope its helpful and not to much is plagurised

Interesting point about drybrushing.
I find a lot of painters tend to pigeon hole techniques - that wash drybrushed, that was washed and so on. Some low quality paintjobs use a lot of drybrushing, so some think that makes drybrushing "bad".
I don't seperate my painting that way. I simply look at it as sometimes I use thin paint, sometimes thick, sometimes lots, sometimes a little. Never get hung up on what is "good" and "bad" technique so long as the end result suits.
If you are painting wargame figures, particularly if they have well sculpted detail, "drybrushing" is probably the most effective way of colouring them up.
(I use my thumb as a pallet too - everyone thinks I have some sort of weird skin disorder)

I like #5 myself. I hate it when I have to throw out a brush! My 000 detail brushes tend to have a definite life cycle that means they either end up being reduced to maybe 2-3 bristles for detail work once they're falling apart, or chopped down to a 2-3mm stump for 'detailed drybrushing' (if that makes any sense). I've also discovered the local $2 shop is an excellent supply of large, cheap brushes for terrain. My terrain brushes have an ever harder life that the 000's. They're used to apply GW paint, Resene interior house paint, exterior enamel house paint, PVA, PVA/gravel sludge, plaster, polyurethane floor varnish etc. Eventually they do die an ignoble death but I sometimes keep the handles around for making into custom tools . Drybrushing is like any other painting technique imho. Use it with moderation and in the right place. 98% of my terrain is painted with a 1 1/2 inch flat drybrush. I've also been painting those FOW vehicles with a vigourous sable drybrush as well. For 28mm I don't use drybrushing so much these days though. Mainly for metal weapons. I don't blend but I do a lot of multiple brushed coats and washes for flesh and clothing. Probably why it takes me so goddamn long to paint a single 28mm figure.
