While readng through a recent GW post on making a display/carry tray for your minis, i noticed that you need lots of small magnets. Does anyone know of any "local" (eg New Zealand) stores where I can buy magnets from? All the stores listed on the GW site are american, which is absolutely no use to me..

They quite often come up for sale on TM. Im not sure if you could get them cheaper elsewhere or not but you can generally find some listed in the war games seciton.

Warehouse have packs of them, about $6 I think? but i've been buying cork notice boards form the $2 shop, they've got 2 strips of magnets on the back.

Hmmm thats some good ideas guys thanks. I managed to find perfect sized magnets, 10 for $2 at the warehouse, and they sell magnets perfect for 40mm bases 3 for $2, they hold figures fine but not tanks too good as I found out..

Geez! That was a bit overkilled I reckon, sure you could do a similar job much easier.
Good magnets though; If they are what I'm thinking of, they will hold a metal figure no problem. In fact, if you happen to get two of them either side of your finger, you will soon see how strong they are. You can get them fom Jaycar.

I haven't seen those sort at the warehouse, when I posted earlier I was talking about magnetic sheet. But come to think of it, I did see some proper magnets if you like, in the craft section at the warehouse. Don't know what they'd be like.
Jaycar do rare earth magnets - 10mm 14.50 for 4, 25mm 18 each, 35mm $28 each. or ferrite magnets - 10mm square 12 for $4.50, 20mmx15mm 6 for $5.45, a bit more bearable, but rare earth is the way to go if you can afford it.
What I really want though are some of their oblique-spheroid haematite magnets. Might go and pick some up at the weekend.
I haven't got a compass cutter either, at least not one that'll do foam core. Got one that'll do sheet steel.

Well I knocked up a cheaper version of the tray thingee in about half a day, using polystyrene mounted on core-board, "drilled" holes the right sizes for 25 and 40 mm bases in it, and put the magnets in the holes rather than on the minis, and put washers under the minis. It works ok, I can hold it upside down, and only cost me $12 for the magnets.
Overall I like the GW one for the inspiration, but in the end it all comes down to what you can afford, and my tray serves it's purpose so I guess thats all that matters.

Sounds more like what I had in mind.
What sort of magnets and where did you get them?
Has anyone ever used magnetic sheet? I was using some the other day and noticed it only seems to be magnetic on one side?
