Ok, so I started a new thread to discuss Aaron's idea. In the CD Terrain Challenge thread he said: I do have an idea for something very similar to MWMM but on a smaller scale. something like this:
A 3 month challenge to collect/paint a scout size force combinied with a terrain piece themed to match the force you've painted.
By a scout size force I'd be looking at something like: 1 leader, 1 or 2 squads or 5-10 troops & either a light vehicle or a smaller elite unit of troops.
The terrain piece could be anything from a forest to a ruined building, a length of barricade, ruined tank etc etc.
No restrictions on genre/style/game system/brand etc altho I would suggest we all stick to 25-28mm figures so we dont end up with wildly incomparable entries (Fow & WH40K).Which sounds like an interesting idea. I do dearly need to finish my Flames of War NZers err since I still haven't done that since the LAST MWMM but I have lots of 28mm 40k figures that could be assembled/painted . I agree that a smaller target in a smaller time frame is a good idea. Hopefully that will attract more punters. I agree that we should stick to 28mm as well.

I have to disagree on the 28mm angle, as although most of you do work in that scale, it will exclude anyone who doesn't. (me, basically)
Perhaps rather than refer to toops, squads et cetera, we use a term like "elements", so someone doing a 15mm army could perhaps put together a base of a rifle platoon, and this would be equivalent to a certain number of figures in a larger scale. or I could pull my finger out and paint my entire 10mm army, and that would be roughly equivalent to one 28mm. or maybe his boots or something.
That said, I do have my catachan specialists team some of you may remember from a while back, and I'd like to get them finished, but I can't be bothered with doing many more.
still thinking, 20mm figures are actually 25mm high, in much the same way that you'd struggle to find a 28mm that is actually 28mm these days (and anyway, they used to be called 25mm. the mind boggles)

(Thought this should be in this forum rather than the terrain one - just throwing my weight around)

Yeah no fair enough. I couldn't create a new top level thread in the appropriate forum...I tried honest . I agree with Aaron's 28mm suggestion because at least then the 'playing field' is leveled. I find it rather hard to vote when the figure ranges are mixed up into different scales. The other plus to sticking to a single figure size is then at least we're all doing roughly the same amount of work in the same time... Having said that I wouldn't want to *exclude* anyone from anything!

Yes I like this idea.I don't mind if other people do different scale niniatures but saying that it is true that it would be easier to vote if everything is the same scale.
So when do we start?

Okay how's this for an idea:what about we keep doing the competitions like CD terrain challenge and Take me to your leader, but we make them part of the bid few month scout force thing?
So like the next competition could be a squad and the next could be a vechile etc. Oh and don't make it that the winner decides the next one maybe make it that we try and decide together so that it's something that'd work for everyone?
Get what I mean?

Great minds think alike! I made pretty much exactly the same post over on the other thread Yeah I reckon that's definitely the way to do it.

I dont see any reason why we couldn't have a few die-hards working on a 3 month challege but have other people who perhaps cant spare the time for 3 months to put forward entries for individual months.
I would like to try and stick to the 3 month entrants having a co-herent theme through out the challenge but I dont think we necessarily have to be too specific. 1st month: Character + troops 2nd month: Special figure + troops 3rd month: Terrain piece + troops
The Character could be any HQ/leader type figure. Troops could be any form of basic R&F appropriate for that style of army looking at maybe 5-10 individual elements for each month. Special figure could be a vehicle, monster, elite unit, canon etc etc Anything thats sort appropriate for a small scout/skirmish force but a bit different.
People could join in on any month that captures their imagination with those of us up for a bigger challenge collecting the complete set...

Oh and personally Id like to see those up for a 3 month challenge posting a bit of fluff, an overall plan and taking some WIPs so we try and get away from that silence for 3 weeks... lots of posts... silence for 3 weeks... we sort of got with MWMM

I reckon we sort out start dates etc. once the CD challenge finishes.
Probably the best start date would be 1st May for the first month...then 1 June...etc.

yeah im up for this probally the 3 month thing but im not good with the fluff AH but Burbsee you hadn't ever done a terrain piece and look what you've come up with!! But anyway if fluff isn' t your thing no problem! its just ideas at the moment. I think a May 1 start would be good as it makes things nice and clear.
