I've never been much of a sports fan, and I've certainly never been much of a shot putt fan, and I've certainly certainly never cheered on a foreign competitor, but I was enthralled with Valerie Vili on Saturday night. Mind you I might be biased, since I like my sturdy girls, and I think the commentator did too, he never shut up about it. Some of his choicer comments;
"... she's found a sport that suits her size"
Then he decided to improve on that one;
"she's found a sport which ideally suits the advantages of her physicality"
and finally
"... she has shown women the world over that whatever size you are there is a sport for you"
Valeri comes across as such a nice person too; when asked how she deals with the pressures of competition and living up to everyone's expectations she answerred "I try to throw the shot as far as I can"
You can keep your size 0 gymnasts, Val's the woman for me. (My wife even says if she dies I can marry Valerie)
