Well a happy new season to you all and my madness is spiralling further and further into some kind of mass painting epidemic. I have painted over half my ork army. This month I am going to tackle more than I should, just to see if my commitment to delivering is what allows me to paint so much. Also because progresively over the last 3 months I have painted more figures than i did previously, and I figure I can only do that one more time, after that there wont be enough models left in the army to paint. Without further Ado heres this months stupidly large amount of figures 19 'Ard Boyz (Elites) @ 319 Pts 1 Nob @ [67] Pts 29 Shoota Boyz (Troops) @ 291 Pts 1 Nob @ [35] Pts 29 Slugga Boyz (Troops) @ 296 Pts 1 Nob @ [35] Pts Here are a few Pics, I must add that last week was spent scrubbing off old paint, disasembling, gathering all the bits and sorting them into a little tackle box, assembling legs and torsos and basing all the models. I started taking photos once they were ready to be painted, with the exception of the ard boyz, i forgot to snap a pick before I painted them black =[ All the boyz Ard Boyz Slugga Boyz (Feral Mob) Shoota Boyz The album with all the pics is here though the others are just shootas and sluggas without spray paint =] www.album.co.nz/a?1167So this month is 80 figures and to be honest If I can finish these by week 3 of this month it will be extended to 100 just cause its a cool number to reach. You may have noticed that the Ork in Mega armour and the Slugga mobs Nob have both got existing paint jobs, but both need extensive reworking, I will take some pics of them to show the changes and to justify them as being painted this month. I must also note I am going to undertake the task of painting my genestealers this month, The old models will not be WYSIWYG, and they are going to be based like my regular 40k armies (broken earth). though the honest truth is that my Girlfriend is going to help me do the base coating and besides, it aint orky so it dont count. I was spending some time preparing and spraying the Genestealers last night and they have already claimed a more than proportionate amount of my DNA. I sliced my fingers not once but twice. one little nick accross the top of a finger and one very deep gash into my thumb, which probably needs a stitch, but I'm ard as nails so its just gunna have to heal itself. O cripes, i got to get painting =]

And The Machine Rolls On 6 hours of painting yesterday brought me to the end of the base coats on the bodies. This is a unit of 30 =] Heads and arms take a little while but these guys will be finished before friday =] At this speed it looks like I might have to start thinking about another 20 models to make the 100 mark =]

Whats realy good work is the second unit of 29 Slugga boyz, They are at the same point of completion, one weeks painting and 60 ork bodies based and painted. I think I am going to paint the 59 heads and 118 arms and 30 shootas before moving on to the next unit... at this pace I could likely finish 80 troops in 2 weeks =] maybe I should try for the 100 before the end of this week =]
Oh and I have a super secret excursion from horde armies brewing in my pot. It is going to be assembled and painted as a display army, i figure some figures are worth taking that much time.
and also in the news this week, I got my Girl a box of Dryads and the Branch Wrait Drycha model =] Sure beats a box of chocolates and flowers =]

*Grumble grumble* Bloddy Arms *Grumble grumble* Still got heads to do =/ *Grumble grumble* Well its been a LOOOONG week, So far I have painted 60 arms, 30 shootas and now I am working on the next 60 arms. I havent even started the heads though I have found some GREAT inpiration for my Ard Boyz www.nightserpent.com/ardboyz.htmlI found these gems through this site, www.the-waaagh.com/which is IMHO the best Ork resource site that I have found (and i seen a lot of Ork pages) Anyways, just finished painting tin bitz onto 60 slugga arms. might put them aside and do some heads now BTW I am still hopefull of finishing 80 models before 3pm on monday. Thats when I started them so thats the point where I count them to... Would have finished them already if I didnt start modeling on this non-horde army =] I cant wait to let the cat out of the bag, but I cant to get the first 6 models converted first. No WIP for these ones, I am still figuring it out so I got no advice yet. Pics of Orkses later =]

Whoa what are all these tumble weeds doing in here.
Ok we due to the evedence of no triuphant post on monday you can guess I havent finished yet.Turns out painting doe 120 arms can drive a man batty, but i have finished them.
Which means i have 60 orks armed and equiped (30 sluggas and 30 shootas) and i have made a modest start on the heads.
Remaining for this month is
19 Ardboyz (legs, bodies and bases) 38 Arms 78 heads (19 need converting) 1 nob in mega armour 1 Freral Nob
I guess I will have to paint 100 figures some other month.
*Sigh*
I was talking to the manager of vagabond (Dave) Hes keen to display my army in the city store. I think hes gunna have to wait till end of next month (I plan to complete the army next month =] )
Shouldnt be too hard, I will have less than 40 models with a few scratch builds thrown in... I need a supply of goblins though... but not a whole box... hmmmm

Right, I had me first game with the ork... with a fully painted ork army. A few subs (burners were rocket launchers). I awas pitched against a "anti-marine" marine army. (That would be cause EVERYONE plays marines) It was his first time playing against Orks and my first time commanding orks and playing 4th edition.
Heres an abreviated 1500pt army list
The Boyz Warboss + 5 Nobs + Mek + Doc + 2 Attack Squigs 26 Sluggas + Nob 26 Sluggas + Nob 20 Grots + Slaver + squig Hound 9 Trukk Boyz + Nob + Trukk 3 Tracks/buggy 5 Warbikes Stompy the dreadnaught
The Plan The plan was simple. start The foot Sloggas clumped on one side of the field (left side), get into assault, sweep accross the table and capture quarters in the last couple turns. The Tracks and buggy were deploeyed at the extreme edge I wanted to work from to lend their TL weapons to the boyz . Stompy and the warboss were in the center field as the army would be catching up and I wanted something scary to hold the center. The bikes provided cover for the trukk and the trukks job was to cut on a diagonal from right to left infront of the Foot sloggers, as mobile terrain to block line of site with.
The Battle The plan was exicuted perfectly with just a few snags.
Pros Took out my opponents preditor in the first round of fire from the Trakks. (Tanks scare me. especially marine ones with more las cannons than its decent to put in one place. Big moral victory.)
Choppas Rule assault
making it to assault with most of my army in tact
Rolling realy well ( I struck average to alightly above average speaking in odds)
Lots of boys equals LOTS of dice. Most I rolled in one assault was close to 100
I took big enough units
2.5 to 1 is a good ratio to start the game
No Ordinance
cons dont clump boys arround a dreadnaught you want to explode
be carful where you move your mobile terrain/LOS blockers, I Though the tactic worked I slowed my boys down because I left myself to little room to get a good run on.
Nobs die easy without boys to soak up casualties.
The army I faced was designed to kill a different enemy, I wouldnt want to march marrines against it. or any other army that is either low on troops or close combat units
Not remembering the Orky special rules all the time, power of the waaaagh became a great one.
Do you have ANY idea how long it takes to pack/unpack/setup/move/pack/unpack 104 ork
Not to mention the damage to my spine from bending over to move them.
The Result The result was total anihilation. by the top of the 5th turn the marines had been stomped to the man and I had well over 50% of my boyz left. The plan worked well but I hate difficult terrain. Migh have to invest in scratch building a few more trukks so I can try a kult of speed with trukk boyz. My opponent faught a great game and councled me well on 4th edition. but he wasnt prepared for an ork menace, seems to me ork players fit outside the standard metagame and require a whole different kettle of fish when dealing with them. This game would have gone alot different if his preditor had of survived and if he was armed with more bolters. I cant wait to get stuck in next time, a few changes and he will give me a serrious run for my money.
After 4 months of painting these little green bstards it was great to see them in action. though I dont know if my back can take the punishment of being hunched over for hours painting then having to hunch over the board for 20 minutes at a time to move my figures...

Absolute madness. We watched from orbit while an unstoppable wave of Green rolled over the Marine positions leaving nothing behind but the charred smoking hull of a lone Predator tank...Truly a Waagh to be feared... Some nice conversions in there too I must say! Lovely work. My particular favourite was the buggy with a Dreadnaught assault cannon arm as their main gun

I just couldn't believe the uneven numbers, right from the begining I couldn't see how the marines would survive. All I can really say is if you are facing orcs make sure you take ordinance weapons!
Great work on the painting, they look inspiring spread across the table. My personal favourite was the truck although the Dreadnought also looked very good.

Yay All done =] I am back on the crap webcam but I am getting a bit better at using it =( I got to get me a better one This month I acheived my goal of 80 figures painted, discovered that painting 160 arms will drive you nuts and sap the life from all but the most determined and pig headed Horde painters. Then there were heads... The cool thing about getting these models done is that A) It almost doubles the number of 25mm based troops in my army B) The slugga unit has already got a victory under its belt c) I got naff all left to do to finish to complete my army, something like 51 pieces. Here are my pics The Fan Boyz ('Ardtoof Look-a-Like Contest)Ardboyz Nob in Mega Armour (with before pic) Detail Pic Dey iz all da same =] Shoota Boyz(Locked, Cocked and Ready to Rock)Detail Pic Insanity Slugga Boyz(The first orcs from the box canyon)Slugga Nob (with Before pic) Details Details Da Tribe There are a few other random pics in the Album www.album.co.nz/a?1249All I got left on the force organisation chart is 2 heavie support and one troop choice. YAY YAY YAY. I got stupid loads of painted orks ;D

Well, what can we say that we dont say every month?
How about...
Jeez man, why didn't you pull finger & get a few more painted? ;D
Nice job, insane amount of work you've got done again. cant really comment on the paintjob as the pics aren't that clear but assuming they are the same quality as we saw last week then its a great achievement.

Yeah Iam happy with the quality of painting, I feel the Ard boyz could have been better but i did what I could with partially damaged 2nd hand models =] The Sluggas are the unit that took the left flank in the battle =]
To be honest I could have painted more but there is something uniquely demoralising about having to paint the arms and heads... thats why it took me longer to paint 120 arms than 60 bodies. Sorry I let ya all down...
I will try and get a decent camera today and add some more pics
