Ah I see, I guess it is a bit like that here since Toyworld started selling GW products.
And I find that I'm the opposite, Dustan, when I got into GW products I only bought from TM but now I find that people are unreliable so I tend to only buy the things labelled as "new", or go out and buy them from Toyworld here (but thats probably cause it takes me ages to paint a standard marine cause I have to have them perfect, no crappy painted models in my army). I'm not overly happy with the price hikes ($75 for 5 termies!!) but when you look at the quality in comparison to the last edition, well it makes sense I guess.

I totally agree PitYak, it suprises me time and again when I start some muddled explanation of what Im doing how many people go "oh thats that... warhammer?"
I dont think this is an indication of a reaction to price increases. I would imagine (and would love to know some solid figures) that if you followed the sales for GW products excluding LoTR that its probably still growing (considering LoTR has probably stolen sales from WHFB & 40k that would be quite an accomplishment).
I think GW are suffering as a result of their own success LoTR was too succesfull and now they are struggling to plug the gap left by "little Johnny" and all his pocket money now LoTR isn't so popular.

Yeah, I guess i will always complain about the prices because I was arround in the good ole days. Total agreeance with the sales boost/popularity drop of lotr, I would hate to see the figures dissapear though, I havent even had a chance to get into it. I will take some photos of what can be done to the last edition termies. I will happily buy or swap for anyones old edition terminators as they are really easy to convert. admitadly i had crap modeling putty and even less talent or drive for sculpting back then so whilst my conversions are not close to display standard, they look 10 times more dynamic than the new ones... the question begs to be asked though, What could i do to the new models (cause they are rather pretty). GW should know better than to expand and expect on the back of a movie. Yes LOTR is a proven franchise and has stood the test of time, yes Peter Jacksons movies are a credit to Himself, the books and the country. But movies should always be thought of as fads, very few sustain any kind of growth that will last (IMHO). Rocky Horror Picture Show, Starwars, Aliens all continue to pull crowds RHPS (didnt do anygood for years before it became big). The Matrix would be a relatively safe bet, I started typing a bit about that but then it got carried away so I have posted a new thread called Necro-matrix here -> pityak.proboards40.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=games&thread=1122604591Anyways, Shame on GW for banking on LOTR's continued success but a bigger shame if the hobby suffers for it. And yes, trademe deals are dodgy at best (unless we regularly hear from the seller on this forum ) you all know who I am greasing. And yeah ya probably read my post of outrage at getting bullet and models with several mm coatings of paint. All i can say is God bless 'Simple Green Concerntrate' may its bio-degradable goodness go on forever.

I sorta got into LotR seeing as I LOVED the book, but found the rules way too confusing for me, and quickly found a niche for myself in 40k. Also, I have found now that GW have run out of things to do with LotR they are making stuff up (has anyone else noticed this in WD?). That came as quite a blow to me, as LotR is as it is and no-one should be able to change it save Tolkien himself.
With regards to the rules of the game tho, I did at one point attempt to convert the rules into 40k syle, and managed to convert a good 2/3 of the rules over into the easier-to-understand (IMHO) format

What are they making up ? I dont even bother reading White Dwarf in the shop unless they got a decent article on an army I AM interested in. I cant remeber the last time I seen a White Dwarf with ANYTHING i wanted in it...
I find its used too much to push the latest greatest thing and not enough time spent on traditional stuff... And also I am not into LOTR (yet) so half a magazine (exagerating) on something I dont play is a bit more than I want to pay for... I get all I need from online comunities (Thanks Phil) and websites...
I loved the books and movies and one day want to play the games, "But it is not THIS day" - Aragon

is anyone old enough to remember the last time citadel did lotr minis?
And joking aside, I think it is bloody fantastic that we as a (admittedly small) community can at least feel secure trading amongst each other. I have had not a single complaint about a member from another. That if nothing else is a good reason to get folk on our board I reckon.

I never thought I would use the internet to met people again, but it seems we got a good crowd.
Yeah I remember the OLD LOTR figure, that was back when white dwarf was stapled together with colour covers and maybe 4 to 8 colour pages, the rest in black and white. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay got quite a few pages dedicated to it and the cover illustrations likely had nothing to do with GW.
And I think they had quite a few figures on hex bases... I miss hex bases
