Anyone play war strat games online? I've found quite a few over the years. most have been text based, which I must prefer because I feel graphics just confuses and adds even more to the overall chaos in my mind as I try to get my head around a series of forumlas
Anyway, the main one I play and have stuck with for around 7 years now goes by the name of Earth 2025. It's alot of fun. And it is big. we're talking 10k plus people playing on a server. It's turn based, as in you get 1 turn every 40 minutes. Most people play it once a day and burn all their turns at the one time. I play in an alliance of around 60 people, the object is simple, get to the top ranks by building the best country possible. The setbacks along the way are numerous. Wars tend to screw up any chance at all of making those top ranks, or in many cases even keeping your country alive
It is a highly addictive and extremely frustrating game. But I keep going back. Anyways, the new reset has just started, and I'm the head of war in my alliance so there is much planning to be done!

So is it like a "civilisation" type of thing?

hmm having never played civilisation I will hazard a guess and say yes?
Ok, you have a basic country, then you have choices on government, tax rate, production percentages etc etc, you choose what kind of buildings to build. You can purchase things you are not producing yourself off the public market (other players sell stuff) so yes I think in that regard is is like that, but then the other side of it is war. One way to grow is to take land from anothr country.. this usually goes ok, but sometimes leads to conflicts. Diplomacy is a big part of teh game, your alliance will have foriegn affairs officers who try to soothe the nerves of other alliances and work things out. Also there are alliances and pacts with others, sometimes wars can end up pulling in half the server via full defence pacts, full offense pacts etc etc. But the most fun is the wars, I love the strategising side of it all
I think playing against other people makes it the more fun, and playing against many as opposed to just one. You never know if the current target is going to log in and start stonewalling on you halfway through a kill run. I could go on for hours. but I wont.. anyways, if you want pretty pictures, this is not your game, it's all text
