kind of an odd one for this thread, but how would I go about importing cans of spray paint?. I've been reading around other forums from different hobbies and there is a product everyone swears by called Mr. Super Clear flat UV cut. Apparantly it is even flatter than testors dullcote and is less prone to buffing (when your matte varnish starts to shine up due to handling) It also cuts uv damage to the paint and prevents yellowing.
I found some on eBay being offered from hong kong for international sale so I asked how they would ship a spray can to new zealand. Well I got a reply back detailing how they would actually package it in bubble wrap .. the language barrier I think, I was actually wanting to know if they used surface shipping (oh it was a shop so they deal in it alot) Apparantly people in the states buy the stuff all the time annd get it shipped over. Or they buy it while in japan and bring it back. Which makes me wonder ifthe declare it or ship it surface or no one really cares?
I'm curious if I was to find a shop that would send internationally, if it would be allowed into NZ, I know that it is prohibited to mail spray cans out of the country and that they won't allow prohibited goods in, or at least they say that in their brochure. So how do you import spray paints? It's not like all the stuff we have in the shops here are made in NZ I'd really love to get my hands on some of this as from what I am hearing it is -the- best matt spray out there

I dont know about Air mail but you may have seen Chem Courier vans driving round, they are kitted and registered to carry hazzardous materials. it might be that there are air carriers that have or do the same thing
Just a guess though

I remember a while back (5 years or so) I popped into GW for a can of spray. They said sorry run out & it takes awhile to arrive cause its gotta be sent surface mail from OZ.
I dont know if that is still the case or even if thats just they way they got it delivered but I was under the impression that spray cans can explode @ high altitude/low air pressure but I dont know if this is true or just one of those random myths I pick-up from time to time.

You could be right, I know a lot of the overseas places I buy from just won't send aerosols, and although people do, you're not really meant to have them on planes, or there's a limit to how many you can have. Which seems a bit silly when you think a bout it. Maybe they are safe in small numbers, and have to reach some critical mass before they will explode spontaneously. That'll be it I reckon.
