Ok I’ve just managed to pick up a new project on TM… well hopefully I haven’t got the models yet but they’re definite strippers and repairers so I’m not too concerned about the paintjob/price. I’ve bought 3 Chaos Space marine bikes. Pic here For people who don’t know what they look like. My first course of action will be to clean them up and replace the broken bits. Then make them suitably spiky from my bits box. But what I really need is some good ideas on how I could add some speed/motion to the model. Really they look a bit like they’re sitting on a stool rather than riding a bike. I was thinking I’ll just angle the riders forward, hunched over the controls, more like riding a ducati than a harley but looking at that chunky plastic arse I’m not sure that will be possible. They will probably be based on reasonably small bases (not sure of exact dimensions) possibly cavalry 25*50 so not too much room for scenery Hay anyone done something like this or got some good ideas?

streamers on the handlebars?
wire radio antennae with a suitable speed induced bend, and maybe pennant flying from the top?
the guys look bald, or is that a helmet? add some hair flowing behind or something
paint them red and add racing stripes, as any boy racer will tell you, red cars with racing stripes go faster

how about tipping them over so they look they're cornering at speed? Couldn't do that on a harley.
(or for that matter leave them riding the bike, not sitting by the side of the road waiting for the tow truck - couldn't do that on a harley either)

well what i'd do for spped would be, make one on a base that's doing a wheely, one on a base tilted wickedly on its side as if he's leaning the bike, and the other with robes or hair streaming in the backwards direction which ya could do with green stuff and then ya could if ya really keen green stuff a bit of fire on the wheels to represent extreme speed and friction

Great! Thanks for those ideas. I'll have another look when I lay my hands on the models and have a better idea whas is possible. If I was gonna do some bent antennas whats the best thing to use? and dont say thin wire! I think twisty tie wire would work but then every time I bump it it will go out of shape.

there's a wire that is used for beading called memory wire. You can pick it up from warehouse i think. It comes in coils and retains its shape. people make bracelets from it cos it doesn't kind and bend, you can flex it to go around the wrist and it springs back into shape again. A length of this would give you the right kind of bend and remain pretty resiliant to damage. My daughter has been nagging at me to get her some It's about $5 for 50 coils if I get some I can always slip a few coils into an envelope and post them to ya if you're keen this is what it looks like

um green stuff would work if ya good with that, but id use the wire ya use for farm fences, its a suitable thickness and bendable with some force

Another idea (i've not used it before but it could work, I can see it working if you pull it off) is to streak it. IE. paint it lined, rather than solid colour, with the lines going horizontally across the model. Either that or do it almost like you would do paint chips on a tank or something.
It would look mildly cartoonish, but it would look really really cool.

That could work I once had a bike ('82 katana with retractable headlamp) that someone described as "looking like it's going a ton when it's parked up" what worked for me you might try on your mini somehow; low front end, all black, no markings, sharp pointy bikini fairing, kicked up back end. Have a look at "streetfighters" magazine or www.streetfightersmag.com for some ideas on making bikes just look downright evil. I've also got stacks of photos of cool custom bikes (other people's and crap old dogs (mine)
