They are nice paint jobs. Particularly considering how tricky red can be to paint convincingly.
But Coldwind, are you going to stick with the green bases though?

Yeah, when I took the pictures the green paint was still drying. I'll be adding 'texture' to the bases in the form of rubble then flocking them this weekend.
I typically do this at the very end as I find the base texture gets in the way when painting. I only added the backpacks/jump pack at the very end also.

Probably worth pointing out if anybody is interested - I painted these using the new 'Foundation' paints from GW. They are not quite as 'one coat does the lot' as GW hypes them to be, but they are definitely better than anything else I have used on a black undercoat. The captain with power sword is probably the best example - I used a black undercoat, then a single coat of Mechrite red, then two thin coats of blood red, followed by blazing orange highlights.
Considering I used to use a white base coat, then two coats of blood red, followed by an ink wash of chestnut ink, then two more coats of blood red, then highlights, the new paint cut back the total painting time by about half. When you're painting up a 5000 point company of red blood angels, this saves mountains of time.
Disclaimer - I didn't use the foundation paints on the gold Dante figure.

I saw those on ebay and had a couple of tries at getting a full set cheaply. I have my limits though and won't bid beyond a local retail price heh. Are they available locally yet? I wanted to try them out as I tend to go for those annoying colours that take forever to paint

I picked the boxed set up at the GW store in Courtenay Place - I pre ordered them, but they have more stock now. I'm pretty sure that Wargames Supplies in the BNZ Center has the boxed sets also. The individual paints will be available at the GW store in a couple of weeks.

I think their about $85-$95 at the Games Workshop store. I got them in a bundle with a boxed set of space marines, paint brushes, the paints, and a limited edition miniature for $195, so I'm not sure of the exact price. I think the best price your likely to find (for new, not used) is at Scrap Dragon - they are an Oz based company that sells most GW stuff. They are heavily discounted on everything - I checked the price on the kit for you - it's $67.72NZD, plus freight, minus GST (since it's shipping offshore) for a total price of $75NZD delivered to your door. Not too shabby. Check it out here: www.scrapdragon.ashop.com.au/p/323914/citadel-foundation-paint-box-set.html

So you reckon the foundation paints are a worthy investment?

It depends what you are painting, and whether you want to undercoat black, but overall they are a definite improvement over the usual citadel paints in terms of coverage. If you are painting anything that needs 2-3 coats for even colour (reds, yellows, and greys/whites in particular), they will help.

I have only heard about these paints, but can you buy them seperately at the moment. and do you know pricing of individual paint pottles. Also how much do you get in a pottle of a foundation paint??

You will be able to buy them separately in NZ at the end of the month. I think they will cost the same as regular citadel paints, as that's how they are listed on the GW Oz website.
The pots are a different design - smaller with white lids, but they hold the same amount of paint as the regular paints (12ml). I'm not a fan of the new pots - I like the regular pots more, as the flip top on the new ones is a bit 'loose' - there is a clip to hold it up, but it requires a degree of control to get the clip to engage without making the pot into a little paint flinging catapult (that would be a tensional catapult, as opposed to a torsional catapult or a trebuchet for you historical war gamers out there).

oohooh! I was just trying to work out the difference between tensional and torsional, since the DBA rule book talks about tensional, torsional, powder and counter-weight artillery.
Only 12ml in those paint pots? That's a bit of a surprise. This new paint sounds promising, even if only for those colours that generally give problems over dark undercoats like red and yellow. Keep up the reviews!
