Excellent shots! I don't think you need too much more light in those particular photos. The slightly murky light works well with the jungle setting and you can still see the figure pretty clearly. I like the close up from the front! Really dynamic...he looks like he's actually raising his fist for a hand signal command to send the rest of the squad (behind him in the undergrowth) forward on the attack. Very cinematic . Paint job looks good. I think your drybrushing looks quite subtle. In those photos it just looks like he's wearing a slightly matt, battle-dusty suit of power armor. Maybe all he's missing is a Chapter insignia on the shoulder pads? Or does he have one on the other shoulder?

Ahh darn camera... But i did finally get a few photo's, i origonally planned to have the yellow bits green but in hindsight that would have looked ridiculous... Somehow when trying to get the photos on the site they didnt show so you'll have to go to www.album.co.nz/photoset/1541

Ah Nids! How I love to play them but *hate* to paint them. Nice paint job . Imho the trick with painting reds is to put them over browns. Scorched brown for darker reds, lighter browns for brighter reds...

Hmm nice idea with the reds... myself i just work up different shades of red and for the last coat i have it so its almost pink and just highlight the edges

Urgh, lots of blending of reds (3-4 layers?) over a black or brown basecoat followed by an glaze of diluted red ink to blend it all back together and richen it up.
I don't really have the patience for that style of painting myself but then I'm always painting for gaming, I've never painted a figure for display only. Hmmm maybe I should try it one day? Have to be a pretty good figure though to make me waste that much time painting it!

Looking good from what i can see! Try resting the camera on something and puting on the timed setting so that when the photo gets taken you arnt touching it and there is no blurring, mine has a seting for taking photos of flowers which is excellent to use aswell.

'Macro' mode is what the little flower means . You're right though. A tripod helps massively when taking figure shots because it stabilises the camera. You can get decent mini-tripods from TradeMe for less than $10. I'd definitely invest in one. Self timer is a good idea too...although all my shots are just taken with a tripod.

My camera should be pussing up flowers... it sure doesnt have a flower mode =\
It was free and ok for pictures where the subject is more than a metre away =] I will try and get a nicer one from the web cam =]
OK whats gunna happen now (in so far as the contest) is I am going to colate the pictures and galleries and start a new thread with a poll for voting.

Hey good work all round I reckon. The Space Marine commander is a little dark I reckon but sometimes playing with colour/brightness etc or an "Enhance" button can lift it just a little. The figure itself is very good. Nice and clean with just a bit of detailing.
I like the zoanathrope good colour choice except perhaps for the yellow, it doesn't feel quite right to me but thats just my opinion. The painting looks good tho.
Uh well the Ork... a little hard to see... the banner pole certainly looks impressive! Perhaps you can try taking the photo a little further away and cropping out all the borders to bring it forward? Sometimes works if you have a high enough resolution on the camera.
Id like to congratulate everyone who fronted with an entry. Good to see half a dozen participants and a good range of figures!

Yeah it was a good range of entries! Although quite heavily 40k focussed...I should have put my IG commander in rather than a Mordheim guy . I have an idea for a terrain competition next too...
