I always use a matt black spray which is extreamly cheap ($3-4) BUT it works well covers evenly doesnt block detail at all if you use it properly, I got it from Super cheap auto if anyone wants to try it..... its called 'Australian Export' I might give that a go. I use a one called, oh, something or other, but it's about $19 a can. The name is three initials, and i can never remember them. One point if you are planning on using a black "undercoat", it is worth buying a true primer, not just a matt black paint. They'll both be black, but a true primer will leave a much "grabbier" surface for painting on.
