Ok, so I've been sniffing around looking at buying some new paints when I finally save up enough, that is if the dreaded bill-monster doesn't descend on me again and leave me another surprise. Well until the time I can actually afford a set I decided to satisfy my need by window shopping. I've decided I will be buying reaper master colors. So now it was just a case of going to the reaper website and buying them right?... but wait there's a website that sells them wayyyyy cheaper I'd be better off buying from them instead, or would i... the following prices are all in US $, at this stage I did not look into any other sites, but I might see what I can find in GB, Europe, Canada and Aussie for comparison. Sometimes -sometimes- you might get a better deal depending on the currency conversion rates at the time. So be sure to use a currency converter when working it all out Well here is what I have so far
doordice.com
$2.54 per bottle set of 54 137.16 shipping $29.20 total $156.36
newwave.org
$2.39 per bottle set of 54 $121.16 shipping $66 total $187.89
reapermini.com
$2.99 per bottle set of 54 $161.46 shipping $26.00 total of $187.46
fantization.com
$2.99 per bottle set of 54 $159.99 %10 off $143.99 total of ?? (was unable to price shipping on this, though it stated free shipping for the entire set as a promotional offer I am sure there will be a charge for international shipping. waiting on an email from them)

Remember when buying overseas that if you buy with Creditcard you will get charged an additional surcharge, not much normally about 1.25% Also if what you import has a sufficiently high value you may get caught with import duties in NZ. At which point you pay an additional surcharge (7% on minis) + GST.
I dont know if this has ever caught anyone out but you never know when some officious customs officer will pick up your parcel and check it out!

Yep that too, though I have never been stung yet.
I'll do round two and find some other places that sell this stuff. and then do a currency conversion comparison. and see how it all pans out

<ahem>
apparently some people don't mind marking your orders down as "gifts" on the custom note
or so i've been led to believe

the thing I find really frustrating is when a product is available here in NZ, but I can still buy it from the states, for half the price. I really do want to support the local guy, really... but when we are talking about saving big sums of $... it kind of gets hard to take the high road, you know what I mean?
A recent example is the rackham hybrid game. On the NZ website that sells it it's $180. I can get it from the states including postage for $120NZ.. saving myself $60. Now that particular retailer has put one on trademe and I see the reserve is $120 so if I was really wanting it I'd bid since it's what it would cost me from the US anyway. But if he wasn't selling it on trademe.....
Vallejo paints, great that the shop in town sells them, but at $5.95 each it'd cost me $428 to purchase the set of 72 game color. plus $10 courier so $438 all up. I can get same set of 72 colours IN a carry case with bonus three vallejo sable brushes for $168us which is $234.60 NZ delivered to my door... That's almost half the price. Even if I got stung on import it's stil huge saving...
How can I be a good kiwi and support the local market when the savings to be made by sourcing offshore are so great
On a slightly related note the suppliers of Derivan minis in NZ contacted me and will sell to me direct as there are no retail outlets that carry the range yet. Though they're big bloody bottles and I really don't want 36ml of each colour!!!! I'd love to be able to buy smaller bottles, heck 12ml at half the price would do me fine
