Oh My Gosh ok, so I know I have raved about the sculpting abilities of Tom Meier elsewhere, but man.... I am in awe. I purchased a boxed set of dark sword minis, they are box #1 in a limited edition series of minis based on the artworks of Keith Parkinson. They are sculpted by Tom Meier (thunderbolt mountain is his other range) and produced by darksword of course. The detail is mind blowing, I swear he's stolen the shrink ray gun from the props room of 'honey I shrunk the kids' and shrunk down a 1/6 scale piece. These minis are in scale, we're talking tiny tiny hands. the eyes are even dotted with a tiny pin prick. The chainmail is the finest mail I have evr seen on a mini and the amount of decorative detail is just .. wow I've idolised this sculptor from afar for many years, but now I see his work up close and personal and I am a true follower www.darkswordminiatures.com/parkinson_gallery.htmlthis was the set I got, the box has been signed in silver ink by parkinson, meier and Jim Ludwig of darksword minis and is numbered 59/99. I was intending on splitting it up and selling off three so I could covere the cost of buying it and shipping, but now I kind of feel like I shouldn't do that as for painting them, gah, where do I start, they are so perfect without me screwing it all up with a bad paint job. Usually my painting helps to enhance fairly run of the mill minis, but these are .. wow oh best bit is the two frog guys, those ones I will definately have fun painting

Yes, they certainly look rather nice. 1/6 you say?
Dare I ask how much?

Only 29.95???
Shucks, that's a bargain. They can't be 6th scale surely?

You know this is how it starts... first he moves your posts so you fit into the right little box... then he gives you a uniform with his chosen slogan on it... then he introduces someone who speaks the secret language and starts to teach us... Ive cracked it!! PitYak is trying to take over the world and he's starting with us!! ;D Hmm ok, sorry Im in a whimsical mood (and off topic). On topic those are great models! I imagine it would be quite daunting to start painting... I always find what I visualise looks so much better than comes off my brush

Gotcha. I thought you meant "life size shrunk down to 1/6"
They are really nice. Me and Mrs were discussing mini's anatomy lastnight; it's nice to see some accurate anatomies, never mind the rest of the sculpt. From the pic you linked to, you would never guess those were 28mm. I can imagine some only-ever-seen-citadel modellers scratching their heads and wondering why all the bodies are funny shapes (One of my wifes comments last night was "Not many of these people have actually seen a woman, have they?")
And don't worry about the black t-shirts, they're just for the march I've got planned.

I was really blown away. The pictures on the website are so much bigger to pick up on all the details. And I really love seeing the raw mini from many angles, and the green plus the artwork that inspired it. These are purely display pieces, the swords and bits are so thin on them they'd get bent too easily. But after seeing these ones I'm definately thinking about heading over to tom's place to check out his 25 mm arthurians once I manage to gather up a little more pocket money

Thin swords. Wow. Not something you see every day. Could put me out of business

bleh, they bend though, they have absolute zero strength to them. Yours I would hope are sturdier than that and I don't think a limited edition of 99 castings will put you out of business
