Ok here's my latest problem: in 40k, what company is blue? You know, for SM, the company colours, eg. red is 3rd company, yellow is second company, etc. Which company is blue? Anyone that knows, your information would be greatly accepted.

Yea, shoulder pad trims, sometimes kneepads or helmets. For example, the GW studio Ultramarines all have yellow shoulderpads, and more recently gold shoulder pads, because they are modelled around the second company. My marines have an overall blue colour, and thats why I need to know what company that is

If they're a codex chapter then the companies markings will be these :
1st Company - Silver 2nd Company - Gold 3rd Company - Metalic Red 4th Company - Metalic Green 5th Company - Dark Silver (Almost black) 6th Company - Dark Gold 7th Company - Metalic Purple/Pink 8th Company - Silver (Between 1st and 5th colours) 9th Company - Metalic Pale Blue Tenth Company don't get a marking.
The above markings are the latest set, not those printed in White Dwarf.
Color can be represented by the should pad trim, the left kneepad, a stripe down the centre of the helmet or the entire helmet or the wings on the chestplate.
Non Codex (Talking Codex Astartes here) Chapters will either not have company structures or use different methods of recognition for the company.

Also librarians are ALWAYS in blue with one shoulderpad painted in default army colour (bloodangels is red with black symbol, unless you want to get artistic)
Tech Marines Always wear red, and same shoulderpad deal (so your ultramarines guy will be red with a blue bad and white logo)
Ultramarines had this thing about white helmets for sergants
should check your codex as well, often each army has a slightly different trim.helmet colour to represent units...

The colour of specialist marines has nothing to do with company markings.
As for Techmarines armour, it was a tradition for Techies who felt more attached to Mars than to their own chapter so it's entirely plausible to have techies without red armour.

Your right about that, but given the devotion to the machine gods, I personally find red Techies more believable. I guess in a distant system where the companys techmarine has been taken out it might not be unheard of for a marine with the correct aptitude would don the servo pack and retain his chapter affiliation.
Opens the army up to more fluff I guess =]
So I will amend my previous statment and say Traditionally techies are red librarians are blue and medics are white.
Being that Ultramarines adhere strictly to the Codex Astartes, It would also be more in flavour with the army. They stick close to it because, to coin a phrase, They wrote the book.
at the end of the day, 2 lines of fluff can justify any variations from standard.
Its like my 'Baal Tigers', I had aquired 20 or 30 spacewolves, after a little carving and sanding I removed the wolf bits and painted the pelts with stripes.
And with that I can use my extra spacewolf marines without breaking the sea of red that is my mighty battle company (almost a battle company, I aint buying that many rhinos, I am mad but not stupid or rich)
