Hi all
So...trademe is sometime not pumping like it should. Has any one here used ebay and paypal. Gutys at work use it and Im seriously thinking about it to get top dollar for my mins/scenery.
Bigger market..but more competition..could be worth a try.
Im just unsre of paypal as Ive heard lots of good and bad stuff about them.
Any comments?

I've used paypal for around 3 or 4 years now, never had a problem with them. I think it's a great way to pay for stuff and recieve payment as the bankcard details are not being handled by others. In fact where paypal is an option, even if the webstore has paying by credit options I will always use paypal, for the above reason.
I have bought a few things on eBay, I'm still kind of torn on that one. For one thing it seems that zero communication is the accepted rule among sellers. I mean sheesh, I'm buying something from the states I want a simple quick mail saying hi received payment thanks, processed your order and mailing today. But apparantly that is too much to ask, I find it all a bit unsettling not knowing the status of something.
I'd probably go for selling on ebay australia, you still link into the main ebay database but your stuff will be listed in aus $. I think with the size of some of the stuff you make posting overseas could be expensive, but then again I never looked into international rates .. it can't possibly be worse than the states charges anyway (made enquiries about ram pricing on ebay recently $38US shipping and handling... but yeah I decided all ebay computer components sellers are rogues who buff up handling charges to make their $$)

I reckon your stuff will go much better on there. Might even be appreciated!
Did you have any trouble signing up? I can't get them to accept my credit card address.

well to be honest I have no idea what Im doing on it.
Trade me is so much simpler in that regard.
I reckon you'd sell your bases and stuff there. I could list one for you if you want to see if it works

Another thing you could try to tie in with ebay selling is coolminiornot.com you can feature auction minis and terrain on there for something like 75c. Ok it's another cost but it can get you more traffic to your auction. They have a daily news which posts photos of the auctions ending today and a direct link in with ebay. Plus randomised advertising of the auctions on each page. Could be worth the extra exposure

AAARGH
I went to nzpost.co.nz to see how much sending the parcel would be. Turns out about $75-$100!!! Dang, almost really screwed myself selling that item on ebay.
I think ebay needs to be for smaller items from here where postage isnt going to kill us.

wow.. ouch. Is that just because of the size? One thing I have found with the nz post website is the rates it quotes seem to end up different from actual real rates. I sold a dolls pram recently ad according to website it would be $35 to post within nz. due to the volumetric size. But when I actually got it down there they weighed it and it cost $12.50 or something, that was for 2 day post
Same thing with a tapestry frame I sold, I quoted the buyer $15 based on the website but the post shop only charged me $7. Try just getting them to weigh it and tell you how much. Also remember the postage might not seem so bad to them cos generally it'll be less in any overseas currency

yeah. I think ebay is a tough market as ther eis so much cheap stuff around,
my 60cmx60cm board went for $60. Pretty lame..but it will do for now. covered materials but not time really. Probably cost about $20 in way of materials to make.

i think in the world of trademe that's a "good" price.
I am now trying to make pieces in a time frame to justify a low selling price, rather than making a top flight piece and trying to get what it's worth.
But that really grates against me; it's completely anti the ethos that drove me start this venture in the first place

;D thanks for not charging what your work manship is worth , that way you get more customers - but volume eates into dog walking time , good old catch 22 " "you must be mad to work there "- no but it helps " .
