My wife always takes the piss because, like a halfling of old, I have a meal for every hour of the day. I say brunch is an extra meal taken between breakfast and lunch for the following compelling reasons; - Why would you swap two meals for one? More to the point, why would you want to swap two of the heartiest meals of the day for one of the ponsiest?
- When Homer was asked how he had managed to gain so much weight since leaving school he replied "I discovered a meal between breakfast and brunch"

theres the part I didnt explain, very tired at the time. if its in the numbers than brunch is a mean 1/3 of the way between breakfast and lunch (2 letters from breakfast 4 from lunch) if its in the letters its a combination of meals Numbers are constants so I would favour them. however urban dictionary seems to lean more towards it as a new meal replacing the former www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=brunchdictionary.com is elusive and writes its definitions to be read both ways. dictionary.reference.com/browse/brunchwikipedia tells us the term is British in origin and comes from 1896 also that Brunch can be served after a morning event or prior to an afternoon one, such as a wedding or sporting event. which I think is the reality of it. A special meal put on by good hosts to ensure that people arent to hungry whilst they are busy being good guests The french language is as always up its self sying that brunch shouldnt be used and one should say le grand petit déjeuner no wonder they never won any wars. The Germans already have words that mean brunch but use it none the same. Zwischenmahlzeit and GabelfrühstückThe Americans have to be completely different from everyone and have brunch in the afternoons. they also use it as an excuse to eat Pizza and crap. WTF. Well I guess that explains Americas Obesity problems. And the simpsons also puts forward another pearl Marges bowling imstructor Jacques (frenchy) "It's not quite breakfast, it's not quite lunch, but it comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end. You don't get completely what you get at breakfast, but you get a good meal." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrunchI think after all this research if any one challenges my contextually use of the term I just going to use one of Homers other gems.... "Can't Talk, Eating"
