the petrol one being all companies tender and then the lowest price is the only one that gets to open

hmm, interesting. I always think everyone should definately get the day off, but then I hate the fact that shops are closed on public holidays.
I don't think anything should be "employer's choice"; employees need rights enshrined in law.
I think the current laws are full of hypocrisy, like video shops are allowed to be open??? and apparently food outlets if they are only selling pre-prepared food (not sure how true that one is)
There was a crazy law back home were on certain days the shops weren't allowed to be "open" until a certain time, but before that they could let people in to look round, but staff weren't allowed to serve them, or even answer any questions or offer any asistance at all. So you would just have tight lipped assistants standing behind counters shaking their heads

I think "get rid of holiday" and replace it with a day off employees can take whenever they like. That way, as long as everyone didn't pick the same day, you'd be able to have a day off and still go out and do stuff.

Hugh working for a Hospital , Some one is All ways working as it is staffed 24 hours seven days a week , only the office staff get every weekend off I only get Saturday Sunday off every second week , Lots of shift workers have to work stat. Holidays , but we get a day in Lu to take at a later date
