If you look closely at it you will see nothing has happened, it just an iilusion. Those columns are still parralel, it just looks like they're not. If you don't believe me, copy the image inot an image editor and draw a box around one of them (or just hold a ruler to your screen and measure them)

The alternating black and white boxes create interferance patterns which your eyes translate poorly. There should be a bit more that I could exp[lain but its been a long day and I have heaps of stuff to read after the internet not working for 2 days, plus I cant be bothered remembering the full explainations I read on other sites ;D
Nice work on the illusion =]
