I don't know if anyone else has any of thse habits, but I know I do.
Probably my worst habit is either EXTREMELY tidy painting (which does get annoying, and I am getting better at being messy), or conversion. I hate to see two models the same in an army, and because of that I have fully converted 20 marines, a commander, a dreadnought and a predator. I look at armies that are all single-posed and shudder. I am so glad I wasn't into 40k during second edition or I woulda cried...
So If anyone else has any odd moddeling habits, post away

I leave my brushes sitting in my water jar, paint with worn out busted brushes, use my normal base coat brushes for detail, shading, dry brushing and terrain.... Its not an easy life being one of my brushes... I use my craftknife on EVERYTHING, including my fingers cause I cant get the hang of cutting away from my hands. I am very lazy when it comes to moulding lines and flash, and I hold al my models by the bases instead of bluetacing them to anything. Wow for all the good advise I have I can think of a dozen things I should err away from... I almost never wash models in soapy water... If they dont have matt black spray I buy satin instead of shopping round. I store my models in boxes (this includes a lot of my painted models) I just cut up an old blanket and use photocopy paper boxes... but I ran out of blanket before I got the the skaven so I just put them in a box piled on top of eachother (a real rats nest... if you will ) I finished painting an ork today, then I decided to go back and use modeling putty to sculpt an arm pit for him... I am going to stop now... Oh and if you read this post, they are mostly bad weird habits I have... I wouldnt recomend any of them... cept maybe the brushes cause they seem to work well for me...

No really ! how normal of you ! I have used 2$ shop brush's for ink work left them to dry and then used them again for detail work / highlighting because they only had 2 bristles to hold paint . when I think about , it my favorite Space marines are the plastic chaos ones , I spent whole weeks converting back to space Wolves I quite enjoyed carving/scraping chaos symbols off , leaving the odd skull behind kept the chain mesh about the waist ( Yes they where store bought box sett )

Man you guys are almost a crazy as me! Uh I have ti say I have used "protoputty" for more than filling gaps, I have made replacement parts from it (I cant afford GS at the moment :S). I also quite frequently wash my brushes out in my nearby cup of tea (tho it is accidental, I do keep doing it), and I don't quite know what effect that has on my paint quality. Also I forget that I wash my brushes out in meths and stick them in my mouth (not a good taste).

Not to mention meths will make you go blind eventually ... After hearing some of the crazy things Dustan gets up to I've been investigating some good old DIY epoxy putty I've had in the garage for a while. This is the 'sausage roll' stuff (white outside, clear inside) that you mix in your hand to a putty that sets rock hard in about 5 minutes. Mitre10 sell it. I've discovered it's a great 'filler' for sculpting stuff. I.e. make the basic shape with this cheap epoxy that sets really hard and apply layers of green stuff or whatever else over the top for detailing. Nice! Saves the more expensive green stuff that's for sure and sets so quickly (5 mins) it's not going to hold up your modelling efforts.

hey yea thats always an idea.. And does meths really make you go blind if you're around it/drink it too much? Not that I drink it, but when it's on the end of my brush..

Hmmm i remeber one time i went to blow all the excess static grass off a base and into the grass pot, didn't work cause all I did was blow all my static grass halfway across my room and in my eyes and mouth.. damn that was horrible

Yeah, Selley's Knead-It...that's the stuff. Couldn't remember the product name. It's good for patching holes in window sills as well . Yeah meths will make you go blind eventually but I think you have to drink quite a LOT of it. I don't think a few dabs off a paintbrush isn't going to hurt you (I was being sarcastic in that other post) but IANAD. FYI the stuff in beer and wine is ETHYL alcohol which isn't technically toxic (although enough reasonably pure ethly alcohol will kill you dead ). METHYL alcohol (aka meths) IS toxic because it attacks fat. Drink lots of it and it starts to attack important fats in your body...like the ones that make up the myelin sheath around your nerve cells. Hence the tremors and eventual blindness. Incidentely I believe most nerve gasses also attack the same thing (myelin) but for different reasons and a much quicker effect . How's that for useless knowledge?

If you have to or do drink meths pour it through a loaf of bread and it makes it less poisonous... your better finding a passerby that will buy booze for you and better still curb the cravings for booze with new models...
I use knead'it for all my sculpting (I am cheap) I use the aqua one which has a fiberglass white finish about 20 - 25 minutes working time

I used Knead it to convert my Mumak, then I added layers of GS over the top for detailing. Looked good

Yea I heard about that meths/bread thing from a mate who works in the railway, I dont think I'd ever EVER drink meths, or do any other drugs or chemicals for that matter..

Hey Dustan, aqua coloured? You don't happen to know which Knead-it product that is? I know there's a couple of different tubes you can buy depending on the DIY application you're allegedly using it for . I think I usually buy the 'general purpose' one out of habit. The 20 minutes working time sounds good. The stuff I've got is white and is rock hard about 1/4 that time. Also gets rather hot as the epoxy sets...uncomfortably hot to hold in fact.
