Where is everyone! I've been looking through the welcome threads and there are so many people with only 1 or 2 posts! It's just not on! Come on people, post away!

Yeah! I mean, it appears that there are only about 10 or so regular posters, and there are 70+ members now. I remember back in the days (man that makes me sound ancient) when us first memers took PitYak by surprise at how much we were posting, and now it seems to be only the same members plus a few more that continue to show loyalty to the forum.

It could be an advers effect of the competition. Not trying to have an ego or anything but maybe everyone is waiting for us to keep posting. Maybe we need a 'Model of the month' or 'Best Use of junk' dont need a prize, the reckonition of our peers is worth more. Maybe even a battle report or two, share the spoils of victory or the hardships of defeat. How would people feel about getting a monthly email newsletter, about whats going on, breifs of a few of the topics that have been discused and links to good to avoid? Maybe its an unforseen effect of the school/uni holidays, maybe the people arent home. Are there stats on how often people log in? As far as forums go, no one here is confrontational, and its been commented to me that the boards seem to be a good source of sane people. Maybe another thing that could help would be to organise a meet and greet. have one in each of the major centers and anywhere there are more than a few members (sorry to those who live in rural places, could be time for a trip to a city The way I figure it is you wouldnt have signed up if you wern't interested in the hobby, and its not (in my experience) a passive hobby. There are 3 parts to our hobby, Models, terrain and gaming. Only one of them is a social event. the other 2 are (to me) very solitary aspects. Having this board, a community of like minded kiwis, people who understand what I mean helps me pick up the brush instead of the computer games, it keeps me productive. I am sure others get the same feeling. Lifes to short to be alone in your hobby, you dont need a camera to share your ideas, you dont need to start a post with a question, you dont need be greedy with your good ideas, really good things can come from 'Wouldnt it be cool if.....'

I think part of the reason there are a large number of non-posting members is that you cant (correct me if Im wrong) read the messages without logging in. Perhaps people are creating an ID to log on and see whats going on then not coming back cause its not their cup of tea. I must say tho there is something about these few weeks that has kept me largely away form painting modelling & so there hasn't been much to say about stuff. Must be the weather...

Yeah I wish people posted more...but I wonder what the breakdown of NZers to overseas people is that are logging on? I figure we don't sweat it...communities take a while to build and as long as new people are signing in then we'll eventually get some more enthusiatic members. I've certainly learned a handful of new techniques already from this board so it's all good as far as I'm concerned!
The boards are a bit wierd if you don't log in. I think you can read older messages but not newer ones...so it always kinda looks like the board isn't that active to casual browsers...maybe I'm wrong?
Aaron you slacker...I expect to see a full month's work posted 31st July! I'm mostly on track - after this weekend's painting it'll just be one 25pdr gun team to finish off next week.

Yeah I think I am even on track.
New Rules for painting orks fast 1. DONT glue the arms and head. before painting. Trust me. 2. If you decorate the base. Paint it before anything else. 3 . DONT sleep, not even for a minute.
I spent last night glueing sand and cat litter onto 54 models, have painted 34 of these grey ready for the wash and the base colours are starting to go on nicely.
Almost all of the arms and heads are painted so its mostly bodies =]
Argh.

I like the idea of a monthly newsletter, that sounds cool. And also about the whole "model of the month" thing, thats probably a good thing to do. And thanks for the happy birthday, my wish-list was pretty much filled, i got: new codex, tactical squad, predator and commander, and possibly a dreadnought yet if I get any more money, which should keep me busy for a while

I think a monthly newsletter's a good idea for groups that don't have a regular avenue of communication, but do you think it's really necessary for a group based round a message board?

actually looking at it that way i suppose you are right it would not really benefit us as we talk to each other constantly i dont think it is necessary for those of us that visit every day but maybe it would help those that dont visit very often??

I used to mail everyone irregularly, but too many folk with no social skills complained they were getting spam so i gave up.
