Is it the combination of 2 peoples names, that you started the studio with?
Pit and Yak being part of abreviation of the names?

One of my pet peeves is businesses with unoriginal names like "John's Gardening" (I hope that's not a real one!) or the craphole I used to work at "Carich" which was named after Caron and Richard the founders, so, no again.

OK, Ive got four more ideas but now Im starting to get desperate (and this is coming from the man who thought up yak migrations!! ) Its a reference to all the mining that goes on up in the North-east of England. You used to live in Pit Street (or lane or wot eva). You really like Pitbull terriers. you just made it up as a cool sounding name and there is actually no reason to it except your imagination. BTW this is a fun competition! lots of room for creativity

Its a reference to all the mining that goes on up in the North-east of England. That is the closest so far, in fact that is starting to burn your feet. (although I would have to add that you'd struggle to find more than one mine in the area nowadawys) and BTW, everythingabout our forum is fun!

YEAAAH! Im getting closer! ;D
totally off topic but this is true story! Yak tax "Tensions between China and Tibet have escalated over alleged yak exploitation." Apparently China taxes Tibet in yaks and they have been undervalueing them apparently resulting in thousands (who knew Tibet had that many yaks) of Yaks being taken, threatening the Tibetan Yak populations (right so they dont have that many after all).
Hmm... ok so you come from a mining family and you took the name from the stories you used to get told?

Not quite;
I'm from one of the few non-mining families around, although even we had a handful of colliers, and my best man spent his life "doon the hoal" until it was closed by the evil thatcher.
You're pretty close to the meaning of both parts of the name now though.
Would be I right in guessing you've done a lot of googling for yaks ;D

Ok then is pit yak a colloquialism for the stories miners tell? Ive been googling for lots of strange things altho Newcastle + Pits was what got me on the right track. Mining + yaks got me to that other story
