Heh congrats Phil!
Damn I've STILL got to start painting my DBA armies. I bought a couple of Osprey books from Amazon and damn it all if they're not going to be back in stock until mid 2007! Augh!

Well it's a winner. I bame c0d3m0nk33, he got me hooked on it. Be warned, as I said it covers about 6000 years of armies. That's a lot to start buying (my shelf currently has more boxes of unopened figures than my local model shop)
I'll be looking at the rule book and go "hmm, could do one of those too..." then it's off to the shop. The best / worst is each army only needs 12 stands, about 30 odd figures, so it seems like it'll be quick and easy to get armies ready. Seems like.

... and don't let him convince you to download the olympian games catalogue either, that's even worse. ... and don't let me convince you to start searching through www.plasticsoldierreview.com.

Hmmm reminds me I need to pick up a couple of Corvus Belli baggies from Olympian since I have some Romans in the wrong period armor...
I'm embarassed to say I haven't actually PLAYED DBA yet! I want to get the armies painted before rolling some dice because I have this lofty fantasy of actually playing my first game of something with a fully painted table... mad I know.
So the game's good then? Ah that's a relief!

what, me played? surely you jest. It's just memorising the books and buying every possible figure I like.
I'll not play until i have painted armies either, but thats not too far away, my picts need one unit of light horse, and my britons need one cav and one spear. If I could just focus on them instead of getting sidetracked into the early, mid and late samurai, goths, scots-irish, saxons, vikings, later saxons, feudal french and english (got some robin hood figures on their way), hyw english, medieval french (all three), welsh, wotr english, and scots i'd be sorted.
Actually, now that you mention it, most of my britons are in the wrong armour too, so I'd better replace them. and I really fancy some elephants, so I should look for an army that uses them, and an opponent of course.
oh, and musick, there's ten roman armies for you to buy all of choose from.

Im in the league of never playing with unpainted pieces either... It just dosent seem right.
Ten argh, I must be strong and only collect 1, lol sounds like a tui ad to me. 30 figures dont sound too bad to get a force going. Whats the scale and cost for units etc, before i go condeming myself by downloading a catalogue.

the scale is pretty open; the rules give options for 15mm and 25mm, but you can use pretty much anything from 5mm to 28mm. I use 20mm. The basing and terrain options are listed for 15mm and 25mm, you just pick the one you fancy. You don't even have to use the prescribed number of figures, they are just a guide. So you could use the 15mm rules but use 6mm figures, and use more of them, or have a big rectangular base with just one figure on it (or none even, it's really just the base size that is important game-wise)
15mm figures seem to be around $6 for a pack of 8 infantry, 20mm plastics are around $12 a box, and you get about 40 figures.
That's got me thinking, I must have something in the region of 2000 plastics by now.

I'm using Corvus Belli 15mm metals myself. Lovely little sculpts and I've discovered I can actually paint a 15mm army in a year or so if I put my mind to it. Perhaps we should have an 'Early Autumn' challenge

could be time for one, and it might make me get in gear a bit. if we had more DBAers it would be good, nice and straight forward with everyone aiming for one complete 12 element army.

Ya know that models are JUST playing pieces, like in cludo or monopoly and dont realy need paint...
Modeling is like a whole different ball game that uses the same field...
