Well, this is what I've been up to for the last month or so instead of painting my 15mm FOW NZers - a 15mm guard tower!

Hmmm is that a positive or negative comment Nah seriously I'm pretty damned happy with the way it turned out. Pretty easy to cast in resin too thank goodness! The only finicky bit being that ladder (it's easy to break while de-molding). Should look bloody good once I paint one up this weekend. Next I'm launching into 15mm North African buildings!

Are they all one piece molds?

Yeap. Why do you ask? The interior is blank basically but I figure nobody is going to look in there anyway so I'll just paint it a dark wood colour and maybe paint on a few lines to suggest timbers.
It's 8 pieces. Four walls, a floor, a corrugated roof, a ladder and a small extra piece of resin to prop the roof at an angle should you want to - I thought it added a little 'realism' to angle to roof slightly.
Ahhh did you ask because of the ladder? That's glued on over that side.

just curious. Now that i've had a closer look I can see from the back of your supports that it's a one piece.
Nice work, the individual parts will be able to be used for other parts too i guess.
As an aside, I almost made one of your "one and a half" piece molds the other day. I needed to cast a 1/6 head, so just cast it into a solid block of rubber, planning to slit it up the back once done, but didn't mix enough rubber so the top 2mm of the head wasn't covered. That small gap was enough to stretch the whole head out (master and cast), so I didn't need to worry about the cut (which incidentally is called a "jeweller's cut" for some reason)

Ladder and roof definitely reuseable...but that's probably about it. It is nice to have decent ladder at roughly scale that I can cast. Hmmm maybe I should work it into a few of those trench wall pieces so people can get out of the trenches A 'jeweller's cut'....hmmm that kinda makes sense...possibly because jewellers mold things that are odd shapes maybe? So two sided molds don't always work for them? Man I love Ultrasil...it's so forgiving that you can get away with stuff like that!

no way man, I can think of loads of things you could use those legs and walls for.
How do you mix your ultrasil? The only major gripe I have with it is its viscosity; mix by hand and dislocate your shoulder, or use a mixer and get bubble riddled rubber.

I mix it all by hand with the end of a thick paint brush handle or errr, whatever other clean stirrer is nearby I only mix small amounts at a time thought. Largest amount I've mixed is maybe around 250ml. I tend to break my larger projects into multiple molds because well, I'm never patient enough to create all the masters THEN mold them...so I sculpt/mold/cast as I go. I also live in fear of pouring a monster mold and totally screwing it up... The legs and walls? Really...do tell . One thing I can see them being useful for is extending the POW camp motif and building a gatehouse and maybe a high camp wall with them...I'd need some kind of fine plastic mesh or netting to represent the wire fencing though... North African buildings is my next project...

Have you made any progress on the painting over the weekend?

I've done the mandatory black primer and first heavy drybrush of Resene 'barrista'. Bit fiddly to paint unfortunately...and I think it'd actually be easier to paint *prior* to assembly - something to keep in mind!

Bit quiet 'round here recently innit?
Anyway...you were of course right Phil. I suspect the next project I'll complete will be a bunker 'top' built from some resin pieces to go with my ultracal 30 trench pieces.
While I don't think I'll be able to re-use any of those resin guard tower pieces (except the ladder) in the bunker, it's certainly going to look similar to the tower once cast.

I'm quiet cos I've been doing much like you - mixing and pouring rubber, which I don't particularly like doing. On the plus side, I've remade some 40mm base molds, and the first of my doors are ready. Get some pics as soon as I can.
Just tooooo busy; work ranging from a 12" custom vader wearing soccer boots to mini nuns. I don't know how I manage to stay even this sane.

Mini nuns?
Anyway...I look forward to seeing your doors definitely! I use a lot Hirst Arts blocks in my 28mm terrain. Unfortunately he doesn't do doors very well. So I've always resorted to scratch building doors from balsa etc.
Some resin cast fantasy or sci-fi doors would be handy.
