I hate when you do something like chop the legs off a mini then realise the conversion you're wanting to perform would have been easier if you left the legs on.. oh well now to see if I can get some teeny drill bits and perform a pinning operation

I hate people who saunter up the street without a care in the world, blocking the path when you're in a hurry to get to the post office so you can get back and finish the 24 pours you have to do before you have to bundle up another package and go back up the post office, only to find a different group of people are also doing their best to make sure you don't get to the post office in time. On a Friday.

I hate the fact society makes hating something accepted but loving something kinda pathetic.

bank fees
I've recently switched my everyday banking acct from ANZ to kiwibank. And here is why
ANZ charge me 40c for every transaction, that is 40c for every withdrawal AND deposit..... I sell something on trademe for $3 tm gets 45c and the bank takes 40c!! I sold off a heap of my older magazines before xmas and nearly had a fit when I saw my bank fees for the month were over $40, they charge me for the joy of having an overdraft, they charge me another fee if I actually use that overdraft during the month. They charge me interest on the overdraft, they charge me per transaction, deposit or withdrawl. They charge me for whatever they can think about charging me for!!
Kiwi bank charge 30c for withdrawl and nothing for deposit. That's right, nada, zip.. you can sell stuff and not get your profits eaten away by fees. But here's the thing that really blew me away
ANZ will not process deposits made on fri sat sun mon until tuesday. Have you ever noticed that? You make an internet transfer to pay for something on a friday and you're waiting an entire week to get it cos it doesn't even show up in their acct til tuesday. Well I paid for something from my kiwibank acct on either a friday or saturday. I was just expecting it to not show til tuesday as per usual, but it showed that very same day!
So has me wondering about internet transfers made that disappear for up to 4 days.. where does the 'no mans' cash go for that time, how much interest are they making on it?

I'll tell you this; I was disgusted by the banking system over here when I first emigrated, and still am.
These banks would simply not have a single customer if they ran an operation like that in England.
You generally get three options in England:
A savings account where you earn interest but are penalised for withdrawal
An account where you get interest, but are charged fees
A current account where you get no interest, but are charged no fees either.
(obviously there a multitudes of variations on these things)
How simple would something like that be? I would be happy to go for a bank that offerred that.
Another thing you can't get here (to the best of my knowledge) is a visa debit card; a fully functioning visa that you can use for online purchases for instance, but is not a credit card, and merely debits your account like eftpos.
is there any reason why nz banks find these such hard concepts to grasp?

Wohoo now this is a topic dear to my heart! I am actually a bank manager, except that I work for a Credit Union rather than a bank (BIG difference but basically we are small, locally owned and cater towards the poorer end of the market). I cant really comment on how our banks compare to other countries as Ive only held an overseas account when I was very young (go the Halifax Building Society! Ive still got my house money box!) but There is a HUGE difference in what you will get charged depending on where you bank within NZ. ANZ is a notoriously bad bank (although my personal experience with them is excellent), they consistently rate as the worst major bank in NZ for customer satisfaction.
The trick is really figuring out how you like to bank and how much you'll be using wot (like eftpos, phone banking, internet etc) then doing lots of ground work on the net to find the best deal. When I was looking at opening a new savings account it took me an evening on the web looking at all the banks sites to figure out where I wanted to go (ANZ as it turned out, cause I don¡¦t care about customer service as I always bank electronically) but I tend to take these things to extremes. I helped my sister find an account and she ended up at Westpac cause it was the best for what she wanted. I bank at work of course (no fees!) but also Im very fond of superbank I think they offer brilliant value, so long as you don't mind not having a bank to visit, and you can handle the idea of banking at the supermarket. Altho I believe that's quite common in the UK.
I was under the impression you could get Visa/Mastercard Debit cards in NZ but I haven't actually looked for one, and having had a quick look couldn't find any.
Oh well I¡¦ll shut-up now cause I could talk about this all day and no one but me really cares ;D

handy person to know! If you do uncover a visa debit card, let me know! an example of one of the accounts i had back home (you can afford to have as many as you want, since you aren't being charged for the privelege); i had this account for about 18 years, and never got charged a penny. didn't earn any interest either, but that was pretty irrelevant since It was just used for wages to be paid in, and money drawn out, so there was never a lot in there, and mostly the exact opposite of a lot! had a visa debit card, option of mastercard debit too if i wanted it, cheque book and switch (kind of like eftpos) i could just stop using it for a year or so, and pick it up again with no hassles or charges. And aren't they great for kids! some of those money boxes are worth quite a bit now. i used to have a barclays one that was shaped like the bank itself. When i opened that account. they gave you 1 pound for every pound you paid in, providing you supplied the top of a soap powder box for every pound you were claiming

Yeah Im not useful for much but if you wanna know about banking, Im your man! Ive also got a LLoyds (sp?) money box shaped like the horses head. I never had an account with them just one of those things you acquire as a young fella from family. In case your wondering I was born in England and lived there till I was about 8, have only been back once since I left for about 3 months. Just haven't mentioned it yet cause I was enjoying being a collonial

Ah ANZ yes, the suprise change to quarterly charges of bank fees instead of monthly and then the fine for being overdrawn when they take it out of your account with no warning. That I did not like.
Out of interest how many poms are there here? Is this really an NZ gamers site or just an "English abroad" siite?

)The story I got from my mother (who is English, I hold an English passport as well) was that pom was originally POME, Patriot of Mother England. Other stories I've heard were that the Australians invented it as Prisoner of Mother England or Prisoner of Her Majesty. I've also heard from Australians that it was a racist slur for the British way back in the convict days ( about twenty years ago ) as the British supposedly looked like Pomengranites after hanging around under the Australian sun.
